Adolescents & students
Therapy for students and young adults
Adolescence, college, graduate school, and the first years of a career ask a great deal. Therapy offers steady ground while so much else is in motion.

The weight these years carry
Academic pressure, applications and deadlines, new independence, changing friendships and family relationships, and questions of identity often arrive all at once. For many students, high performance on the outside coexists with anxiety, self-criticism, or exhaustion underneath.
I have particular experience supporting adolescents, college students, graduate students, and young professionals. Before becoming a clinician I studied education at Brown University and the University of Oxford and served students in both K12- and higher education.

What we work on
Common threads include academic stress and perfectionism, anxiety and depression, ADHD, burnout, identity and self-esteem, relationship difficulties, and the disorientation of big transitions: leaving home, changing schools, finishing a degree, or starting a first job.
Sessions are engaging and collaborative. Each week, therapy stays connected to what matters most to my clients.

How this works practically
Students based in Arlington can meet in person at the Solid Ground Psychotherapy office. Students anywhere in Virginia, including those away at school within the Commonwealth, can meet virtually. Many clients move between the two across the academic year.
Common threads
Where this work often begins
- 01AnxietyWorry that hums beneath the surface, racing thoughts at night, a body that will not settle. In therapy, we work to uncover the origins and uses of anxiety, and to find a steadier ground.
- 02PerfectionismWhen nothing ever feels finished or good enough, achievement stops feeling like success. We look at where those standards came from and what it would mean for them to loosen their grip.
- 03Academic stressDeadlines, grades, and expectations can crowd out everything else. Therapy offers a place to step back, sort out your priorities, and define a life according to your values.
- 04College student mental healthThe college years ask a great deal: new independence, new relationships, and questions about who you are becoming. Therapy can help define your values and goals that give this formative time meaning.
- 05Graduate student mental healthGraduate training brings its own strains: isolation, advisor relationships, self-doubt, and long horizons. Therapy can help you stay connected to the reasons you began, and to your hopes for your future.
- 06Identity and self-esteemQuestions of who you are and what you are worth can run underneath many other struggles. Therapy offers a steady, nonjudgmental place to work them through.
