About Miriam

A senior psychotherapist at Solid Ground Psychotherapy, PLLC, offering psychotherapy in Arlington, Virginia and virtually throughout the Commonwealth.

I’m Miriam Merin, LCSW, a senior psychotherapist at Solid Ground Psychotherapy, PLLC, in Arlington, Virginia.

I offer a warm, thoughtful, and nonjudgmental space where you can feel genuinely understood. Together, we can clarify what matters most, build on your strengths, and create meaningful change that supports the life you want to build.

I created this website so you can learn more about my background and approach to therapy. Appointments, consultations, and scheduling are coordinated through Solid Ground Psychotherapy.

Philosophy

A therapeutic philosophy

My work rests on the conviction that people make sense. The patterns that bring someone to therapy, however painful, once served a purpose, and understanding them with warmth rather than judgment is what allows them to change.

I believe that healing takes place in the context of relationships, and that lasting change emerges through understanding the deeper patterns that shape thoughts, feelings, self-worth, and connection with others.

Training

Education and training

My training reflects a longstanding interest in the intersection of mental health and education—particularly how learning environments and developmental experiences shape emotional life.

I hold a B.A. from Brown University in Education History & Policy, an M.Sc. from the University of Oxford in Higher Education, and an M.S.W. in Mental Health from Washington University in St. Louis. During my graduate training, I completed my clinical internship at the Saint Louis Psychoanalytic Institute and received the Edward Lawlor Award for my advocacy on behalf of survivors of sexual assault.

I also completed a clinical certificate in psychodynamic psychotherapy at Bryn Mawr College.
